Jakarta (The Indonesian News) – The Indonesian film community has once again received an invitation from Russia to participate in the Open Eurasian Film Award “Diamond Butterfly,” which will be held for the second time this year.
Quoted from a press release by the Russian Cultural Foundation on Wednesday (June 17), the event opens opportunities for Indonesian filmmakers to expand their international networks while promoting their works to the global film community.
“For Indonesian filmmakers, this event is an opportunity to once again engage on the international film stage, introduce their films to a wider audience, expand collaborative networks, and take part in the dialogue on the development and future of cinema,” the Russian Cultural Foundation wrote.
About the Award
The Open Eurasian Film Award “Diamond Butterfly” was initiated by Russian filmmaker Nikita Mikhalkov and organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation together with the Russian Cultural Foundation.
The award aims to reaffirm cinema’s role as a medium that elevates universal humanitarian values while preserving the cultural and historical heritage of nations.
The Russian Cultural Foundation stated that this year’s edition is the second, following the inaugural event held on November 27, 2025, in Moscow .
Indonesia’s Strong Showing in 2025
Last year, a total of 34 films from 17 countries participated in the event. Indonesia was represented by two films: Lost in Ningxia and Komang. In fact, Komang, directed by Naya Anindita, was nominated in the Best Composer category.
Additionally, Indonesian director Tunggadevi Amara Wijaya also participated in a creative session titled “Creativity Unites,” organized by the Russian Cultural Foundation. The program, in collaboration with the international education project Innopraktika School, brought together 10 young filmmakers from eight countries at the Nikita Mikhalkov Academy of Cinematographic and Theater Arts.
“Through this program, the participants produced a number of short films under the guidance of Russian film figures,” the Russian Cultural Foundation continued.
2026 Edition Details
This year, the Open Eurasian Film Award “Diamond Butterfly” will once again be held in Moscow. The winner of the Best Film category will receive a Yakutia diamond worth $1 million.
Meanwhile, winners in the categories of Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Music Composer, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Artistic Director, Best Non-Eurasian Film, and the Outstanding Dedication to Cinema Award will each receive a Yakutia diamond worth $250,000.
In addition, winners will not only receive Yakutia diamonds as prizes but also a diamond butterfly-shaped trophy designed by renowned Russian artist Yuri Kuper.
“The new season of this award opens opportunities for Indonesia to further strengthen its presence on the international film scene and expand its participation in the Open Eurasian Film Award ‘Diamond Butterfly,’” concluded the official statement from the Russian Cultural Foundation.
