Defense Minister Strengthens Role of Territorial Development Battalions: From Defense to Community Empowerment

Aceh (The Indonesian News) – Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin has affirmed that Territorial Development Battalions (Yonif TP) not only serve as strategic elements of national defense but are also expected to act as driving forces for development and community empowerment in various regions.

The Minister made these remarks during a working visit to Aceh Province on Thursday (June 18), inspecting two Territorial Development Battalions: Yonif TP 855/Raksaka Dharma in Gayo Lues Regency and Yonif TP 853/Buwar Reje Bur in East Aceh Regency.

The visit is part of the Ministry of Defense’s commitment to ensuring readiness while optimizing the role of territorial development units in supporting national defense and regional development.

In addition to maintaining territorial resilience, the presence of Yonif TP is also directed toward strengthening TNI-community relations and contributing to improving the welfare of residents in their areas of assignment.

In his address, the Minister emphasized the importance of readiness and professionalism as the primary assets for carrying out duties.

“Combat capability, continuous training, and solidarity among soldiers are the main foundations for building a resilient unit ready to face various operational challenges,” the Minister said, as quoted on Friday (June 19).

During the visit, the Minister also directly inspected various unit facilities and held dialogues with soldiers to understand the real conditions faced in the field.

From these inspections, the Minister noted a number of infrastructure and facility needs that still require attention, including limited clean water availability and training support facilities.

Nevertheless, the Minister appreciated the various initiatives undertaken by the units to independently address these constraints.

These efforts have been carried out through the development of support facilities and the utilization of available resources to support soldiers’ duties.

Prioritizing Soldiers’ Core Values

“TNI soldiers must always uphold professionalism, discipline, and a spirit of service to the nation and state,” the Minister emphasized.

He also stressed that the diversity of soldiers’ backgrounds should be a unifying strength for all TNI members in a solid, professional identity, ready to carry out duties across all regions of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

Going forward, the Minister hopes that the presence of Territorial Development Battalions will increasingly strengthen regional security stability while providing tangible benefits to the community.

These units, the Minister affirmed, have a strategic role in enhancing TNI-people unity and supporting regional development.
