New Delhi (The Indonesian News) – President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto affirmed that BRICS has a strategic role as a platform to unite and amplify the voices of developing nations the Global South in helping determine the course of the world’s future.
The statement was delivered by Prabowo during the open session of the 2026 BRICS Summit, a forum bringing together leaders of member states to discuss the direction of future cooperation.
“BRICS can unite the voices of Global South nations and strengthen them as we together shape the future,” President Prabowo said during the open session of the 2026 BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, India, on Sunday (13/9).
Prabowo described the future that must be built together as an order in which a nation’s resilience can protect development, while innovation opens broader opportunities for society.
Cooperation between nations, according to President Prabowo, must also yield concrete benefits, rather than stopping at agreements on paper.
“A future in which resilience protects development, innovation opens more opportunities, cooperation delivers tangible benefits, and sustainability ensures prosperity is felt by both the present and future generations,” he said.
Prabowo also spoke about the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. He noted that Indonesia’s commitment to the development agenda must remain in force, and that the struggle of developing nations must not end upon reaching the year 2030. “We must hold fast to that commitment. Indeed, these efforts must continue beyond 2030,” Prabowo stressed.
According to the President, the 2030 Agenda was never intended merely to race toward a deadline for achieving development targets. More than that, the agenda must serve as an instrument to help developing nations secure a more equal position within the global system.
“This agenda fundamentally aims to bring developing nations closer to the position that is rightfully theirs to bring peace and prosperity to their people, and to give developing nations a greater role in shaping the world order,” Prabowo said.
Prabowo holds the view that Global South nations must be included in discussions on the direction of global development beyond 2030. In his view, the voices of developing nations are needed not only to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, but also to design the next global agenda.
“It is therefore only fitting that the voice of the Global South must be heard not only in accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, but also in determining the direction of development beyond it,” he said.
