Jakarta (The Indonesian News) – Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded 4.68 million foreign tourist visits to Indonesia from January through April 2026.
That figure represents an 8.24% increase compared with the same period last year and marks the highest level achieved since 2020.
Pudji Ismartini, Deputy for Methodology and Statistical Information at BPS, said the positive trend indicates that the national tourism sector continues to experience robust recovery and growth.
“The achievement of foreign tourist visits from January to April 2026 is the highest since 2020,” Pudji said at a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday (June 2, 2026).
BPS also noted that the majority of foreign tourists entered Indonesia by air during the January–April 2026 period. I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali was the busiest entry point, with 2 million arrivals.
Hotel Room Occupancy Rates
Meanwhile, BPS data showed that the Hotel Room Occupancy Rate (TPK) in Indonesia reached 37.08% in April 2026. This figure rose 3.80 percentage points compared with the previous month (month-on-month) and increased 0.33 percentage points compared with April 2025 (year-on-year).
The hotel room occupancy rate can be broken down into star-rated hotels and non-star-rated hotels and other accommodations.
1. Star-Rated Hotel Occupancy
In April 2026, the occupancy rate for star-rated hotels stood at 48.83%. Spatially, the highest star-rated hotel occupancy was recorded in Bali at 57.94%, followed by DKI Jakarta and West Kalimantan at 54.80% and 53.76%, respectively.
Meanwhile, the lowest star-rated hotel occupancy rates were recorded in Aceh, Central Papua, and Bangka Belitung at 24.35%, 29.58%, and 30.39%, respectively.
Cumulatively from January to April 2026, star-rated hotel occupancy reached 46.01%, a rise of 2.07 percentage points compared with the same period in 2025.
The largest increase occurred in West Papua, with a gain of 13.38 percentage points, followed by West Kalimantan with 10.47 percentage points and Maluku with 7.35 percentage points. Meanwhile, the steepest decline was recorded in Mountainous Papua, down 5.76 percentage points.
2. Non-Star-Rated Hotel and Other Accommodation Occupancy
For non-star-rated hotels and other accommodations, the occupancy rate in April 2026 reached 24.96%. Spatially, the highest rate was recorded in DKI Jakarta at 38.09%, followed by the Riau Islands at 35.11% and Bali at 34.81%. Conversely, the lowest occupancy was recorded in Mountainous Papua at 9.62%.
Cumulatively from January to April 2026, the occupancy rate for non-star-rated hotels and other accommodations reached 23.75%, an increase of 0.51 percentage points compared with the same period last year.
The largest increase was recorded in West Papua at 7.72 percentage points, followed by Gorontalo at 6.38 percentage points and North Sulawesi at 4.88 percentage points.
Meanwhile, the deepest decline occurred in Bali, down 4.72 percentage points, followed by DKI Jakarta at 3.47 percentage points and Banten at 2.47 percentage points.
