Jakarta (The Indonesian News) – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has revealed that tax revenue throughout this year remains solid. Through May 2026, tax revenue reached Rp834.4 trillion, representing a 22.1% increase compared with the same period last year.
Purbaya said this achievement serves as a strong signal of economic improvement within society. Additionally, the growth has been driven by enhanced oversight and increased taxpayer compliance through the Coretax administrative system.
“So this all shows that there is real improvement in the economy. This data indicates that economic improvements are genuinely taking place,” Purbaya explained during the APBNKita (State Budget) press conference on Friday (June 5, 2026).
Furthermore, Purbaya detailed the growth and contribution of each tax category, reflecting domestic economic activity.
First, revenue from individual income tax (PPh) and Article 21 income tax reached Rp123.1 trillion through May, growing 26% compared with the same period last year. Second, corporate income tax and corporate income tax deposits through May 2026 reached Rp167.6 trillion, up 23.9% from last year.
According to Purbaya, the increase in income tax revenue from both individual and corporate taxpayers reflects rising incomes in society.
Third, revenue from the Value-Added Tax (VAT) and Sales Tax on Luxury Goods (PPnBM) through May reached Rp315.7 trillion, surging 41.3% compared with the same period last year.
Purbaya said these tax revenue figures provide evidence that domestic demand remains strong and shows no signs of economic slowdown.
“VAT and PPnBM, as consumption taxes, are rising sharply in line with strong domestic consumption and maintained purchasing power,” he said.
Thanks to significant growth in tax revenue, Indonesia has also successfully managed to keep its state budget deficit in check. Through May 2026, the fiscal deficit was recorded at Rp180.4 trillion, equivalent to 0.70% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
“This deficit shows that our budget management is good. The deficit is under control, so the fiscal condition is very healthy,” Purbaya concluded.
